Marina Blagojevic Hughson (Hjuson), the main researcher on the IMAGES Serbia Project and Center E8’s long-term associate was yesterday announced the winner of the Fulbright’s Leader 2018 Award!
Marina Blagojević Hughson is a sociologist, theoretician and researcher in the field of gender studies and an international gender expert. Hughson works at the Institute for Criminological and Sociological Research in the highest scientific title, as a scientific adviser.
Highson is the director of the consulting firm Altera MB – Gender Research and Consultancy. Marina Blagojević was president of the Sociological Society of Serbia and the director of the Institute for Sociological Research at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade. Hughson has authored a number of scientific publications (more than 150) in the field of sociology, demography and gender studies. What is the Fulbright Leader Award?
The Leader Award is a recognition for professional excellence. It is awarded by the Fulbright Scholarship Association of Serbia, a non-profit non-governmental organization that gathers scholars of the US Government program.
Fulbright promotes professional and academic excellence, as well as positive social change, with the aim of contributing to the strengthening of the capacities of international cultural, institutional, scientific and professional exchange and cooperation.

Our Awarding Commission had a really tough task this year. Following the formation of a list of candidates and candidates and several rounds of voting, the commission decided to head the title of the Leader for 2018 in the hands of Marine Hughson.
Marina Hughson is a sociologist, scientific adviser at the Institute for Criminological and Sociological Research in Belgrade, who has spent decades studying gender studies, which during the last year conducted significant research in the field of masculinity studies. We congratulate Marina and thank all nominated for exceptional contributions in society.
This is the third time that the Leader Award has been in Serbia. The winners of the award for 2016 were Ivan Lalic, Marija Laganin and Tajana Zadravec, as individuals behind the initiative “Miksalište – multicultural refugee center and local community”, for their contribution to positive social changes during the refugee crisis in 2015. The 2017 award went to Dušica Popadić, the founder and director of the Incest Trauma Center in Belgrade, for contribution to positive social changes during 2016 in the area of providing support to children victims of sexual violence and survivors of sexual violence in childhood, as well as work on prevention of violence over children through educational programs.
